Introduction of GDS MC: A Crucial Link in the Indian Postal System
The term "GDS MC" stands for Gramin Dak Sevak Mail Carrier. It is one of the essential posts within the Gramin Dak Sevaks. Nowadays, GDS MC is also known as GDS ABPM ( Assistant Branch Post Master ). GDS MC plays a critical role in the Indian Postal Service, ensuring effective communication between Sub Offices (SO) and Branch Offices (BO). Also, there are some GDS MCs ( Also Known as Daksevak MC ) who ensure effective communication between a sub office and another Sub Office. As the name suggests, the primary duty of a GDS MC revolves around mail bag transportation.
Daily Responsibilities
Morning Shift:
A GDS MC starts their day by reaching their account office, or SO, before 10:30 AM. This timing may vary depending on the circle. At the SO, the MTS Packer sorts all incoming mail according to their respective BO addresses. After sorting, the mail is packed into BO-specific bags under the supervision of the Sub Postmaster. If the Branch Postmaster (BPM) requests money, it is also included in these bags. A GDS MC can carry up to ₹40,000 in their bag. Other important documents, such as account-related forms, daily transaction reports, and bag numbers, are also included.
Once the bag is prepared, it is handed over to the GDS MC. The GDS MC then travels to their designated branch office and hands over the bag to the GDS Branch Postmaster.
Afternoon Shift:
After the branch office completes its daily operations, the GDS Branch Postmaster prepares the return bag. This bag includes the BO daily account, transaction vouchers, account opening forms, and any excess money to be returned. The bag is sealed and given to the GDS MC. The GDS MC then returns to the Sub Office by 3:30 PM to hand over the bag to the MTS Packer.
